The National Institute for Direct Instruction (NIFDI) is interested in supporting community organizations and other groups advocating for effective instruction. Specifically, our goal is to assist these groups in their efforts of promoting the implementation of Direct Instruction (DI) and assisting with building understanding and awareness of DI. To this end, we are hosting this webpage in order to build a community of advocates where various groups can interact, get information and have their questions answered. Additionally, we host a blog with questions posed from our readers, as well as offer a step by step plan on how community organizations can advocate for DI in their local schools.
Here are the steps we recommend for guiding your school or district towards investigating and implementing DI effectively:
Step 1: Inquire about the early identification of academic problems in neighborhood schools.
Step 2: Review resources on Direct Instruction’s evidence of effectiveness.
Step 3: Review what needs to be in place to make Direct Instruction a success.
Step 4: Visit a Model Direct Instruction School.
Step 5: Contract with NIFDI to ensure that the implementation is a success.
Step 6: Once DI has been adopted, monitor the implementation in coordination with NIFDI.
If you have a question about Direct Instruction (DI) that is not answered here, please email us at info@nifdi.org.
