The Effects of the Language Arts Strand of the Reading Mastery Signature Series on the Reading and Language Skills of English Language Learners

Ralston, N.; Benner, G.; Nelson, J.; Caniglia, C.
Abstract:
This study examined the effect of using the Language Arts strand of the Reading Mastery Signature Edition program as a supplement to non-Direct Instruction reading programs with English Language Learner (ELL) students. Seventy six students in grades K-5 were selected from three elementary schools to participate. The Diagnostic Assessments of Reading was administered to all students for pre- and posttest measures. Results indicate statistically significant gains in word recognition, oral reading accuracy, silent reading comprehension, spelling, and word meaning percentile ranks.
