Project Pals: A description of a high school-based tutorial program using Corrective Reading and peer-delivered instruction

Marchand-Martella, N.; Martella, R.; Bettis, D.; Blakely, M.
Abstract:
This article describes the implementation of a peer-delivered reading program, Project PALS, for high school students using the Direct Instruction program, Corrective Reading. Peer tutors provided students with an average of over 4 hours of extra reading instruction each week, wherein one-on-one instruction with Corrective Reading was delivered. The majority of students involved in the project were considered at-risk for reading failure. This article discusses information about implementation variables gathered through questionnaires completed by high schools that implemented Project PALS.
