Two approaches to the development phase of mathematics instruction

Three studies assessed the effects of two mathematics instruction programs, a basal math program and the Project Follow-Through Direct Instruction program, on math achievement with elementary school children. Results indicate that across all three studies, students benefited more from the Direct Instruction program than the basal math program.
