Reading decoding and fluency of high school students with special needs: The effectiveness of Corrective Reading

This study examined the effect of Corrective Reading on the decoding and fluency skills of three high school students with learning disabilities. Prior to the intervention all three students were reading between a first and third grade level. Multiple tests were administered for pre- and posttest measures. Results indicate that the reading decoding and fluency skills increased for each student and their reading grade levels increased between 0.4 and 0.9. Each students’ ability to correctly identify words from each word list increased from five to thirty percent with self-corrections and sounding the words out.
