The National Institute for Direct Instruction (NIFDI) recently developed a handout for parents, community members and other non-educators explaining why Direct Instruction (DI) is effective. Schools and teachers may find this handout particularly helpful in showing parents some of the rationale behind the programs and answering some of the basic questions that arise about what DI is and why it works.

The 2012 edition of Connecting Math Concepts: Comprehensive Edition (CMCCE) provides a number of improvements to the previous edition of CMCCE. Most instructional strategies are the same as those of the earlier editions; however, the procedures for teaching these strategies have been greatly modified to address problems in presentation of the content to serve at-risk students more effectively. The 2012 edition of CMCCE has also been revised on the basis of field-testing.
